Beijing loves an excuse to drink beer – and man, is St. Patrick’s Day an excuse to drink beer. But what makes this St. Paddy’s Day especially exciting is that it falls on a Friday this year, which means you have the entire weekend to nurse that hangover. This year’s celebrations include beer, music and combinations of beer and music. Oh, and a couple of comedy nights too. (All events are on Fri March 17, unless otherwise stated.) Let's begin.

Mar 13-19: St. Patrick’s Celebration Week @ Paddy O’Shea’s

As always, Paddy O’Shea’s is going all out for their favorite holiday. Screw having one party on Friday, Paddy’s will be celebrating all week long. Click here for a detailed list of the Irish pub’s daily celebrations. But you can expect live Irish bands and Celtic music, a comedy night and quiz night, and more. Oh, and there will also be an epic party on the actual St. Patrick’s Day.

Mar 15: Punchline Comedy All Irish Show

*UPDATE: This show has been cancelled

If you're looking for laughs, the Irish comedians who make up Totally Wired will be invading the Hilton Beijing on Wed March 15. Expect a combination of music and comedy - and lots of laughs.

Wed Mar 15, 8.30pm. RMB190 (presale) / RMB240. Hilton Beijing, see event listing.

Shamrock Festival

Mao Livehouse is opening its doors once again for the second annual Shamrock Festival. Performing are soul and funk rockers Jokers Belief, power pop group Disaster Chat, neo-grunge band Drunkard, Funky Monkey (no explanation necessary) and indie-rockers The Paper Tigers. In honor of St. Paddy's day there will be plenty of drink specials and prizes. And if you're dressed in green you'll get a special Irish discount: buy one Guinness and get one free.

Fri Mar 17, 8.30pm; RMB80 (presale) / RMB100 (door). MAO Livehouse, see event listing.

Eudora Station

Eudora is getting into the spirit of things with buy-one-get-one Guinness from 5pm-midnight. They'll also be mixing up Irish whiskey cocktails all day long. And a live band will be performing too. If wearing green isn't your thing, Eudora might sway you with a free green beer for anyone donning green.

Xian

Xian is going all out for the occasion. On Friday night, Xian will channel their inner Irish spirit, which means they’ll have Kilkenny and Guinness (and more) on tap. To set the festive mood, a local Celtic Irish band and traditional Irish dancers will take the stage after 9pm. It wouldn’t be a proper St. Paddy’s Day celebration without lots and lots of food-and-drink deals. From 5-8pm, all beers, cocktails and pizzas will be half off. Things will kick off at 5pm, but the party’s bound to stay going all night long. Make sure to wear something green because the best dressed girl and guy will win a brunch for two at Feast

Slow Boat

Slow Boat Brewpub and Taproom have a bunch of drink deals lined up for St. Patrick’s Day. LongDong Dark Ale, Beijing Car Bombs and Jameson shots will all be RMB30 each.

Blackwater @ Modernista

Modernista is hosting Beijing-based Irish band Blackwater for a night of foot-stomping traditional music. Blackwater is the real deal – they performed for the president of Ireland in 2010.

Fri Mar 17, 9pm; Free entry. Modernista, see event listing.

Ramo

Ramo will be offering Foxes Rock Irish Red Ale and Stout, Jameson Irish Whiskey and Baileys all day long for RMB30. And you know what that means... DYI Irish Car Bombs! Ramo will also be serving up a special Green Pesto & Roast Chicken Pizza.

The Local

What’s St. Patrick’s Day without green beer? Well, the green beer will be flowing over at The Local on Friday (RMB25 per pint). There will also be plenty of discounted shots and themed drinks, including a shamrock shake. The festivities will begin at 5pm.

Great Leap Brewing

Great Leap will be handing out four stouts for RMB100 (all locations, all day long).
