The survivor of a tiger attack in Beijing earlier this year is now suing Beijing Badaling Safari World for RMB1.54 million (USD223,506), Global Times reports. The lawsuit was filed by the daughter and husband of the woman who was killed in the attack.
Zhao Li, daughter of the deceased and victim in the attack, argues that she should be compensated for the physical injuries she sustained during the incident, as well as the death of her mother.
The lawsuit was filed at a court in Yanqing, the district where the park is located. Although the case was accepted by the court, Zhao is aiming to get her case accepted by a higher court to avoid potential bias, The Beijing News reported.
The attack occurred on July 23, after Zhao and her mother exited their vehicle while visiting a safari-style exhibit at the Beijing Badaling Wildlife World. CCTV cameras captured a Siberian tiger as it pounced on Zhao seconds after she got out of the car. As she was being dragged off by the tiger, a male and female passenger then exited the same vehicle in an effort to help. The second woman (Zhao’s mother) was then mauled to death by a second tiger. Park employees rushed to the scene but were only able to help Zhao.
At Beijing Badaling Wildlife World, guests are permitted to drive around the park to observe wildlife in a safari-like atmosphere. However, they are prohibited from leaving their vehicles for safety reasons.
Regardless, Zhao believes she should be compensated for the physical and emotional injuries she has suffered due to the attack and argues that the park should be held responsible.
