Daimler has demoted one of the company’s senior executives after he went on a racist rant in Beijing on Sunday.

Rainer Gartner, head of Daimler Trucks and Buses (China) Ltd., became enraged with a Chinese driver over a parking space in Beijing’s Shunyi District. During the incident, Gartner allegedly yelled "I have been in China one year already; the first thing I learned here is: All you Chinese are bastards," People’s Daily reports.

Gartner also reportedly pepper sprayed numerous passersby when they attempted to help the driver.

Daimler, a German luxury car company, has repeatedly apologized for Gartner’s actions and ultimately relieved him of his position on Monday.

“The nature of the dispute and in particular the manner in which it was conducted, irrespective of any comments alleged to have been made, is adjudged to be not only of concern to the public but viewed by us as detrimental to the standing of our company, unbecoming of a manager of our brand and prejudicial to our good name,” Daimler said in a statement.

Daimler added that the incident between the Chinese driver and Gartner had been resolved in an “amicable manner.” The investigation has been completed.

According to Daimler, Gartner will remain with the company. However, they have not announced what his new position will be.
