Aug 25: 2nd Beijing Indie Film Festival & Networking Event
Beijing’s very own Indie Film Festival is back for round two. On Thursday, 14 short films will be screened at the new outdoor Skylight Cinema on the rooftop of Sanfine International Hospital.
There are multiple award-winning films in the bunch – some of which
haven’t been publicly screened in Beijing. It’s also a great networking
opportunity for those looking to mingle with the Beijing filmmaker
community as well as marketing and media professionals. You can expect That's Beijing to be in attendance plus there'll be food and drink vendors – including Jing-A and Caravan – so come hungry and thirsty!
The
festival is organized by Joshua Linder, an award winning filmmaker from
America who works as a producer, cinematographer, editor and film
financier in Beijing. The 14 films that will be screened span genres,
from Kung Fu to comedy to music videos. All films will be subtitled so
everyone can enjoy them. There will be 2.5 hours of films shown during
the festival and an hour will be allotted for networking. Plus, there
will be plenty of food and drinks on hand and ample of time for
mingling.
Thurs Aug 25, 5.30-9pm. RMB25. Sanfine International Hospital, see event listing.

Aug 27-28: Farm to Neighbors Showdown For Hami Melons!
Do you know what a Hami melon is? It’s actually widely known as a honeydew melon, but Hami melons are the real deal. Despite their popularity it's actually tough to find real Hami melons that are actually from Xingjiang. This weekend Farm to Neighbors is partnering up with Liangse Gonggua to bring real Hami melons to Beijing. To celebrate they're hosting a bunch of fun (and delicious!) melon-inspired events. Oh, and the regular farmers' market will be going on too.
Sat-Sun Aug 27-28, 12-6pm. Free. Farm to Neighbors (The Grand Summit), see event listing.
Aug 28: TEDxSanlitun
X gon’ give it to ya, gon’ give it to ya… Sanlitun.
TEDx, an offshoot of the nonprofit innovation leader TED, is about creating quality events for communities and its members. In this case, it’s the multi-cultural Sanlitun getting the TEDx treatment, with the theme ‘Red’ representing Sanlitun’s diverse range of people and their underlying passion. The conference will get ‘red people’ together to share new knowledge and ideas. It’s about celebrating learning, differences, community and, above all, life. Leading up to the event, keep an eye out for a ‘Red’ photographic exhibition as well as a ‘Humans of Sanlitun’ feature, sharing real stories about real people in Sanlitun.
Celebrate Sanlitun: a place inhabited by locals and foreigners from a range of areas including commerce, fashion and diplomacy, and each of them with their own different tales and hobbies.
