April 28- May 1: The May Festival @ Hacker-Pschorr Brauhaus

What better way to celebrate the long holiday weekend and the start of summer than with a beer-infused festival? Mayfest is a traditional Bavarian festival which originated in the 16th century and it has somehow managed to make its way to Beijing. The May Festival at Hacker-Pschorr Brauhaus will feature live German bands, Bavarian games and plenty of May Bock beer.

Apr 28-May 1; 6pm-12am, RMB98 (regular admission) or RMB298 (VIP) Hacker-Pschorr Brauhaus, see event listing for details.

April 29: Mr. Carmack @ Lantern

Hailing from Hawaii (via LA), Mr. Carmack has seen two of his releases become No. 1 bestsellers on Bandcamp. And now he’s bringing his unique blend of hip-hop and trap to Lantern on Friday. Support comes from Jarreau Vandal, Oshi, Shackup, Bloodzboi and Dokedo.

Along with a whole host of international artists, Rahaan (the Chicago-based veteran DJ), Syracuse (the Parisian EM duo) and more will perform at Tango for the FULL_SCREEN event, a new initiative from the ShadowPlay Collective where musicians and artists are brought together to create a multisensory experience full of cosmic techno and disco illusions.

April 30 - May 2: Strawberry Music Festival

Not to totally ram this one down your throats, but the Strawberry Music Festival starts this weekend and we're kind of excited! International headliners include the likes of The Prodigy, Disclosure and Modestep. But there will also be tons of great Chinese indie and rock artists.

Apr 30-May 2, 3pm-1am; RMB300 (one day), RMB610 (three days); RMB240 (one day, presale); RMB519 (three days, presale); Grand Epoch City, see event listing for details.

May 1-3: Art Beijing

201604/Art-Beijing-22.jpg

This is more of a classy party that an all-night rager. But hey, intellectuals like to let loose too. Get dressed up, sip on some wine and ponder some of Asia's best artwork at this year’s Art Bejing. The event will highlight emerging East Asian artists with its additional theme of “Find Asia.” As such, Art Beijing is collaborating with prominent galleries in the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. But you can also expect masterpieces by well-known Western artists as diverse as Andy Warhol, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Andrei Milnikov.

Sun May 1-Mon May 2, 11am-7pm; Tue May 3, 11am-6pm; RMB100. National Agricultural Exhibition Center, see event listing for details.
