That’s Beijing takes a look at the best of the week:
Apr 18-23: Beijing International Film Festival
The sixth annual festival kicked off this past weekend with a star-studded red carpet event (even Natalie Portman was there!). As part of the festival, over 500 films will be screened around Beijing this week, including The Big Short, The Lobster and Ex Machina.
Wed-Fri Apr 13-15, see website for details.
Apr 21: Cheers Wine Dinner at Feast
Feast’s talented Chef Rob Cunningham has created a menu specially tailored to accompany wines from every Beijinger’s favorite wine shop: Cheers. The four-course meal will feature a seafood platter with harissa, baked pastry-puff chicken soup, beef shank braised in Malbec wine and pavlova for dessert. Each course will be paired with a different Cheers wine – from light sparkling to deep red.
Fri Apr 21, 5.30-10pm; RMB288 (plus 15 percent service charge); Feast, see event listing.
Apr 22-23 Migas Rooftop Opening
Every year, when we write about the re-opening of the Migas terrace, we wonder: will this be the last time we care so much? Yet every year, heading to the Migas rooftop feels like the official start of summer. To celebrate, there’s a weekend of parties. On Friday, local heroes Watermelon and Demone go back-to-back. The big one on Saturday features Djuma Soundsystem and lots more.
Fri-Sat Apr 22-23, 9pm; RMB100; Migas, see event listing.
Apr 23 - Jul 17: CSI: The Experience
Inspired by the hit TV series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: The Experience is a traveling exhibition about forensic science and technology. Going from crime scene to lab, visitors can perform realistic CSI tests such as matching DNA, examining bullet casings and identifying single strands of hair. Just like on TV, or real life, we guess.
Sat Apr 23, 10am-8pm, RMB60 (60 min), RMB280 (120 min), RMB600-1,200 (group tickets of five adults); Joy City, see event listing.
Apr 24: B Movie Fest 2016
Head over to Temple Bar this Sunday to celebrate the best of the worst in film. Six movies will be screened over the course of nine hours, including Evil Dead 2 (1987), Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964), The Wicker Man (1973) and more. There will also be draft beers for RMB10.
Sun Apr 24, 2pm, free entry; Temple Bar, see event listing.
