The 60th annual Beijing International Running Festival will take place in the capital on April 17. The springtime event draws thousands of participants each year. Routes vary from year to year but they always lead runners through Beijing’s historic and important sites. This year runners will snake their way through the city, starting at Tiananmen Square and ending at Bird’s Nest Stadium – that’s a grand total of 20 kilometers. But for those who aren’t quite up to the challenge, there will also be ten and five-kilometer races.
The first-ever Beijing International Running Festival was hel in 1956 in an effort to raise awareness about health in China. The festival has grown in popularity throughout the years. This year’s event is expected to draw upwards of 20,000 people.
The race starts at 7am at Tiananmen Square on April 17. To sign up for the running festival head here.
