The imperial examination was the path to respect and family honor for hundreds of thousands of Chinese men from the Song dynasty onwards. At Guozijian, the Imperial Academy, scholars studied the Confucian classics, and then sat the exams next door at the Confucius Temple, hoping to achieve the highest degree, Jinshi.

Join Cultural Keys for a walk along the historic Guozijian Street, where the Imperial academy and Confucius Temple are located, and learn more about these important sites. Then take a calligraphy class on neighbouring Wudaoying Hutong to understand more about the Chinese language and how it’s written.
