It’s time for another East-meets-West fusion experiment in the shape of Baozza, a trademarked portmanteau referring to the union of pizza and baozi. The result is a selection of curiously herby steamed buns filled with classic pizza toppings. Bear with us. Because although the margherita variety is under-filled and rendered soggy by tomato sauce, the Sanlitun-based start-up has some better, brawnier options. The Hawaiian jalapeño Baozza is meaty and satisfying, and packs a punch you won’t find at your local hole-in-the-wall. The Meat Lover and BBQ chicken varieties are also surprisingly good.
